Acceptance: Accept yourself as you are right now. When you stop trying to be something you are not, and allow yourself to be who you are in this moment, you open up the energy to become who you want to be. 

Awareness: Be aware of your thoughts, feelings and experiences in the present moment. Rather than blocking out or trying to analyse and control your situation, listen to your heart and intuition. This will open up more creative thinking and assist you to make more meaningful choices in your life.

Support: Give yourself permission to ask for and receive support and open up to a richer connection with others. You don’t have to do it on your own. Talk to a friend today.

Take some risks: To live life with authenticity and vitality we all need to take risks. Don’t waste the present by being fearful of the future or by worrying about lost opportunities in the past.

Smell the roses: See the positive in your life and be grateful for what you have. Change your perceptions and find meaning and purpose in life, and in turn, change your experience.

People can find ways to let go of limiting patterns which have led to feelings of depression and/or anxiety, and make choices to live life more authentically and joyfully in the here and now.

• Kathy has trained and supervised students enrolled in the Masters of Counselling Course at QUT and the Masters of Gestalt Therapy course for more than 15 years.
